HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 504

Requesting the United States Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a study and correct the problems that exist at the flood control project located at Twelvepole Creek and Jordan Branch in Wayne County, West Virginia.

Whereas, In 1939 the United States Army Corps of Engineers installed a flood gate at the mouths of Twelvepole Creek and Jordan Branch, which flow into the Ohio River, in order to control flooding in Ceredo, Wayne County, West Virginia; and

Whereas, In 1954 a pump was added to the project to control the flow of water from Jordan Branch to Twelvepole Creek, then directly into the Ohio River; and
Whereas, Since that time, the project has received little attention and the gate is in dire need of repair; and
Whereas, The gears to the valves have broken, rendering the gate inoperable, and therefore, unable to expel drainage, which on occasion causes flooding; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates hereby requests the United States Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a study of the flood control project located at the mouths of Twelvepole Creek and Jordan Branch, and that needed repairs be made for its proper operation; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the district engineer of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
