A BILL to amend and reenact section one, article five, chapter eighteen of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, relating to county boards of education; elections for board members; and requiring districting of counties for purposes of electing board members.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That section one, article five, chapter eighteen of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 5. COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.

§18-5-1. Supervision and control of county school districts; number, nomination and election of members.

Each county school district shall be under the supervision and control of a county board of education, which shall becomposed of five members, nominated and elected by the voters of the respective county without reference to political party affiliation. No more than two members shall be elected from the same district. The county commission of each county having a population of two hundred thousand or greater, shall, prior to the primary election to be held in the year one thousand nine hundred ninety-six, create five districts by dividing the county into five areas as nearly equal as may be in population, from each of which a member of the school board shall be elected.
