]

A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-7e, relating to requiring the State Board of Education to create a home economics course for students in secondary schools.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

ARTICLE 2. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

§18-2-7e. Program in home economics.

(a) The Legislature finds and declares that persons with an understanding of home economics are better prepared to perform everyday activities such as cooking, sewing, house cleaning, minor home repair, budgeting, and time management would go a long way to help students have more successful lives as independent human beings.  Providing a home economics course in secondary schools in West Virginia will prepare students to handle their everyday life issues.

(b) To provide students a basic familiarity of those issues, the state board shall develop a program of instruction in home economics that may be integrated into the curriculum for students in secondary schools.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require the State Board of Education to create a home economics course for students in secondary schools.
