SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 15
(By Senators Ball, Love, Ross, Schoonover, Sharpe, Fanning,
Walker, Anderson, Mitchell, Hunter, Oliverio, Kessler and McCabe)
Requesting the Division of Highways name the section of U. S. Route
19 from the Virginia border in Mercer County to its
intersection at Hilltop, Fayette County, known as old U. S.
Route 19/21, the "Hank Williams, Sr., Memorial Highway".
Whereas, Since his death on December 31, 1952, near Oak Hill,
country music singer and songwriter Hank Williams, Sr., has become
an American country music legend; and
Whereas, Hank Williams, Sr., traveled over old U. S. Route 19
on the night of his death; and
Whereas, The haunting melodies of Hank Williams, Sr., have
touched the souls of so many people throughout the United States;
and
Whereas, The contributions of Hank Williams, Sr., have helped
launch country music into the billion-dollar industry it is today;
and
Whereas, The designation of the aforesaid highway will greatly
enhance the potential for increased tourism in southern West
Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Legislature hereby requests the West Virginia Division of Highways name the section of U. S. Route 19 from the
Virginia border in Mercer County to its intersection at Hilltop,
Fayette County, known as old U. S. Route 19/21, the "Hank
Williams,
Sr., Memorial Highway"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner
of the Division of Highways, the Secretary of the Department of
Transportation and the Governor of West Virginia.
