SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 6

Jackson, Wooton, Chafin, Plymale, Bailey, Anderson, White,
Prezioso, Walker, Helmick, Fanning, Kessler, Dittmar and Tomblin,
Mr. President)
Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make
a study of the need for a veteran's nursing home in West
Virginia.
Whereas, There are over 200,000 veterans in West Virginia,
60,000 of whom are veterans of WWII and 40,000 are veterans of
the Korean War; and
Whereas, With this large aging veteran population there are
currently no long-term nursing homes for veterans in West
Virginia; and
Whereas, Surrounding states have nursing homes for their
veterans; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby
requested to review, examine and study the status of the growing
and aging veteran population in this state and the needs for
nursing homes for these veterans, together with the method of funding and the ways and means for development of a veteran's
nursing home which are feasible and advisable and to make
recommendations to the Legislature regarding the same; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the said Joint Committee on Government and
Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 1999,
on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with
drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its
recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
