SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 7

Requesting the West Virginia Division of Highways name the new
bridge on Route 52, south of Delbarton, the "Cecil Diamond
Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, During his life, Cecil Diamond served his nation with
pride and distinction in the United States Marine Corps. He spent
nearly three years in Vietnam. After leaving the Marine Corps, he
joined the National Guard, where he served until his retirement in
1996; and
Whereas, Cecil Diamond served the citizens of Mingo County as
one of the founders of the Mingo Extractional Technical Squad, a
rescue squad, which was consolidated with the Delbarton Fire
Department; and
Whereas, Cecil Diamond, proud of his military service to the
United States and West Virginia, was the commanding officer of the
Young Marines of Tug Valley and the newly formed Young Marines of
Guyan Valley; and
Whereas, Sadly, the life of Cecil Diamond came to an end on
August 8, 1998, in a tragic accident; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature:
That the Legislature hereby requests the West Virginia
Division of Highways to name the new bridge on Route 52, south of Delbarton, the "Cecil Diamond Memorial Bridge" in honor of a
distinguished West Virginian who dedicated his life to public
service as a community-minded citizen; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
the Department of tTransportation, the cCommissioner of the dDivision
of hHighways and the family of the late Cecil Diamond.
