SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28

(By Senators Chafin, Oliverio, Manchin, Love, Schoonover, Ross, Sharpe, Blatnik, Bailey, Dittmar, Bowman, Plymale, Walker, White, Whitlow, Jackson, Wagner, Helmick, Wooton, Minear, Buckalew, Grubb, Kimble, Deem, Wiedebusch, Yoder, Dugan, Miller, Craigo, Anderson, Macnaughtan, Boley and Tomblin, Mr. President)


Recognizing the accomplishments of Carolyn Gretchen Conner for her academic achievements as West Virginia University's twenty- fifth Rhodes Scholar.

Whereas, Carolyn Gretchen Conner, the daughter of Jack and Margot Conner, is a resident of Valley Fork, Clay County, West Virginia; and
Whereas, Carolyn Gretchen Conner, a graduate of Clay County High School, was selected to represent West Virginia at the National Youth Science Camp and the United States Senate Youth Program; attended the Governor's Honor Academy; and was elected president of Clay County High School student council as well as president of her senior, junior, sophomore and freshman class; and
Whereas, Carolyn Gretchen Conner serves as president of Tau Beta Pi, an Engineering Honor Society, has achieved the highest grade point average ever among West Virginia University engineering students and has earned the grade of an A in thirty-six courses with seventeen of those grades being an A plus; and
Whereas, In December, 1995, Carolyn Gretchen Conner was named West Virginia University's twenty-fifth Rhodes Scholar and will study physics and philosophy at Oxford University in England for two years; and
Whereas Carolyn Gretchen Conner plans to pursue a doctorate degree in engineering so that she may someday teach and inspire students as she has been so inspired; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby congratulates Carolyn Gretchen Conner for her academic achievements and her selection as West Virginia University's twenty-fifth Rhodes Scholar; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Carolyn Gretchen Conner.
