Senate Resolution No. 29

(By Senators Walker, Tomblin, Mr. President, Macnaughtan, Ross, Sharpe, Ball, Snyder, Love, Minear, Buckalew, Plymale, Fanning, Hunter, White, Prezioso and Helmick)


Recognizing the contributions of public health and prevention services to the citizens of West Virginia as an investment in our present and future.

Whereas, Health professionals at all levels should be encouraged to protect individual and community health throughout West Virginia by their active involvement in community health services which affect the lives of many of our citizens; and
Whereas, Many West Virginians are dependent upon public health services as their only source of medical treatment; and
Whereas, The efforts of public health services prevent the spread of disease through childhood immunizations, programs to reduce lead poisoning, the encouragement of seat belt use, the control of tobacco and through their response to disasters; and
Whereas, The President of the United States has declared that the first week in April, 1997, be designated as "National Public Health Week" in America, with the theme "Public Health: An Investment in Your Future"; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the outstanding dedication and commitment of community public health services throughout the state of West Virginia and commends them for their devotion and professional treatment of our citizens; and, be it
Further Resolved, That West Virginians and public health professionals should observe the declaration of the President of United States that the first week of April, 1997, be declared "National Public Health Week", in celebration of the public health services which affect the daily lives of many West Virginia citizens; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor of the state of West Virginia, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources, the Ccommissioner of the Bureau of Public Health and the Eexecutive Ddirector of the American Public Health Association.
