(By Senators Ross, Helmick, Dittmar, Anderson, White, Craigo,
Macnaughtan, Jackson, Bowman, Wooton, Plymale, Fanning, Sharpe,
Schoonover, Love, Ball, Hunter, Deem and Kimble)
Requesting the Department of Transportation to reinstate courtesy
cars on the limited access and other four-lane highways in our
state.
Whereas, The increase in speed limits and in the number of
motorists on the road makes it increasingly dangerous for any
individual experiencing car trouble to be parked or walking along
the shoulder of a four-lane highway; and
Whereas, Because of these increased speed limits and the
increased volume of traffic, accidents and injuries to stranded
motorists and their vehicles resulting from passing vehicles
becomes increasingly likely; and
Whereas, Because tourism is such an important industry in our
state, it is beneficial to the state's image as a hospitable host
to have courtesy cars helping out stranded travelers; and
Whereas, Courtesy cars were used for a few years in our state
at one time, and were a popular safety feature of West Virginia's
highways; and
Whereas, It is in the public interest to have courtesy cars
patrolling our state four-lane highways for the purpose of aiding motorists who are stranded or otherwise in trouble; therefore, be
it
Resolved by the Senate:

Transportation to reinstate courtesy cars to patrol the limited
access and four-lane highways of our beautiful state; and, be it
