SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 38

Recognizing the contributions of The Education Alliance to West
Virginia's educational system.
Whereas, Schools and educators across West Virginia work
tirelessly to educate children and ensure their success in school
and throughout life; and
Whereas, The quality of education depends greatly upon the
involvement of parents and community members in the education of
their children; and
Whereas, The Education Alliance is a statewide nonprofit
organization whose sole mission is to promote business and
community involvement in public schools to enhance student learning
opportunity and achievement; and
Whereas, Founded in 1983, first known as the West Virginia
Education Fund and currently as The Education Alliance, it is
distinguished as the first statewide organization of its kind and
has served as a model for the nation and other countries; and
Whereas, The Education Alliance has worked in every county in
West Virginia providing grants and awards totaling over 1.2 million
dollars, recruiting and supporting school volunteers, establishing
business partnerships, cooperating with higher education
initiatives and conducting reliable, unbiased research; and
Whereas, As an unbiased, nonpartisan organization, The
Education Alliance has produced several important research studies
which have advanced the discourse and consideration of important
issues facing education in West Virginia, including preparation of
high school graduates, factors affecting school effectiveness, and
school finance; and
Whereas, Thousands of volunteers have worked and continue to
work to help schools and their students through Alliance programs
including "Read Aloud West Virginia" and "Tech Corps West
Virginia"; and
Whereas, The Education Alliance is beginning to celebrate its
fifteenth anniversary of services and work to support West Virginia
schools; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the many contributions of
The Education Alliance for its support of West Virginia's public
school system and its dedication and commitment to our children;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby extends its sincere
appreciation to The Education Alliance, and the thousands of volunteers who have contributed their time and resources for
fifteen years for the betterment of West Virginia's public school
students; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the appropriate representatives of The
Education Alliance.
