SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 39

(By Senators Bowman, McKenzie, Scott, Plymale, Dittmar, Kessler, Chafin, Jackson, Deem, Love, Schoonover, Boley, Ross, Sharpe, Craigo, Ball, Snyder, Anderson, Tomblin (Mr. President) and Buckalew)


Requesting the West Virginia congressional delegation to seek federal funding for the upgrading of U. S. Route 2 from Chester to Huntington.

Whereas, U. S. Route 2 is a major artery to the life of the northern panhandle and remains a two-lane road; and
Whereas, U. S. Route 2 has become a dangerous hazard to the citizens of the northern panhandle and the western portion of West Virginia; and
Whereas, The citizens of the northern panhandle and the western portion of West Virginia are forced to take other routes for quick access to other portions of West Virginia, even traveling into Ohio. An upgraded U. S. Route 2 would enhance the accessibility of other portions of West Virginia to our citizens residing in these areas; and
Whereas, The dangerous conditions of U. S. Route 2 warrant the need for the upgrading of the highway to four lanes for the safety and welfare of the citizens of West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby requests the West Virginia cCongressional dDelegation to seek funding for the upgrading of U. S. Route 2 from Chester to Huntington to a four-lane highway in order for the citizens of western West Virginia and the northern panhandle to have quicker travel and more accessiability to other portions of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the West Virginia citizens who travel U. S. Route 2 do so with dangerous conditions threateningexisting to their safety and welfare; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby requests the West Virginia cCongressional dDelegation to seek federal funding for the upgrading of U. S. Route 2 from Chester to Huntington from a two- lane to a four-lane highway; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the West Virginia cCongressional dDelegation.
