A BILL to amend the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18B-2A-6, relating to requiring the governing board of West Virginia University to maintain the competition rifle team program and the rifle range for a period of not less than three years pending a legislative study .

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §18B-2A-6, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 2A. INSTITUTIONAL BOARDS OF GOVERNORS.
§18B-2A-6. West Virginia University competition rifle team program.

The Legislature hereby finds and declares that the West Virginia University competition rifle team is a program of excellence which has brought national recognition and acclaim to the university. The proposed elimination of the competition rifle team program may have unintended and negative consequences including the degradation of the reputation and standing of West Virginia University in the eyes of the public.
In order to ensure against these possible negative consequences, the governing board of West Virginia University is hereby directed to maintain the competition rifle team program and the rifle range for a period of not less than three years pending a legislative study of the potential unintended and negative impact the termination of the program may have on the university.

governing board of West Virginia University to maintain the competition rifle team program and the rifle range for a period of not less than three years pending a legislative study .
