HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 17

Requesting that the Division of Highways designate the West Virginia Route 2 from Parkersburg, West Virginia to the Pennsylvania border as "Marine Corps League Highway" with suitable signs to identify it.

Whereas, There are several symbols of recognition of Veterans Organizations such as the Vietnam Veterans Highway, the Purple Heart Bridge, the Korean Veterans Highway and the like, throughout the State of West Virginia, which is as it should be; and
Whereas, West Virginians over the years have chosen the United States Marine Corps in large numbers and there needs to be some symbol for the many thousands of West Virginians who have served in the Marine Corps with distinction, with many of them having given their full measure of devotion to their State and country and served as a tribute to their service and to their families and survivors; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Department of the Marine Corps League, with 14 detachments located throughout the State, consisting of almost a thousand members has suggested that Governor Robert E. Wise designate the West Virginia Route 2 from Parkersburg, West Virginia to the Pennsylvania border as "Marine Corps League Highway" with suitable signs to identify it; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways is urged to consider the request of the West Virginians who are now, or have served this State and nation, as members of the United States Marine Corps and designate the West Virginia Route 2 from Parkersburg, West Virginia to the Pennsylvania border as "Marine Corps League Highway" with suitable signs to identify it; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
