HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 87

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to conduct a study of methods to increase affordable access to prescription drugs for all of the citizens of this State;

Whereas, The amount spent on prescription drugs is projected to continue to increase by fifteen to eighteen percent per year; and
Whereas, Many of the State's citizens are without prescription drug insurance; and
Whereas, The cost of prescription drugs creates a financial burden for many West Virginia citizens; and
Whereas, The federal government has done little to address the growing problem of increased prescription drug costs and lack of access to prescription drugs; and
Whereas, The Legislature recognizes that innovative strategies are required to increase access to prescription drugs for all of the State's citizens;
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to review, examine and study the problem of affordable access to prescription drugs for all State citizens and to devise innovative methods and strategies which will result in an increase in affordable access to prescription drugs for all West Virginians; and be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
