SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 23

Requesting the Commissioner of the Division of Highways name the newly constructed visitor's center on the Interstate 68 Veterans Memorial Highway in Preston County, near Hazelton, the "West Virginia Medal of Honor Recipients Memorial Plaza".

Whereas, The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the armed services of the United States of America; and

Whereas, The State of West Virginia is privileged to be the home of 43 Medal of Honor recipients, many of whom were awarded the medal posthumously; and

Whereas, The actions of these brave West Virginia Medal of Honor recipients, who responded in action above and beyond the call
of duty, are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon the state; and
Whereas, It is fitting that those traveling through our state be reminded of these outstanding West Virginians; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Legislature hereby requests the Commissioner of the Division of Highways name the newly constructed visitor's center on the Interstate 68 Veterans Memorial Highway in Preston County, near Hazelton, the "West Virginia Medal of Honor Recipients Memorial Plaza"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Commissioner is requested to have made, and be placed, signs identifying the visitor's center as the "West Virginia Medal of Honor Recipients Memorial Plaza"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of Transportation, the Commissioner of the Division of Highways and the Director of the Division of Veterans' Affairs.
