SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 6

Requesting the Division of Highways name the portion of road located at CR 8 from the intersection with WV 214 to the intersection with Quail Hill Drive, 38° 17' 13.42" N, 81° 48' 40.64" W, in Lincoln County, the "U.S. Army SSG Orland Jackson “Tom” Meikles Memorial Road".

Whereas, Orland Jackson "Tom" Meikles, a native of South Charleston, WV, lived a life of distinction worthy of being remembered; and

Whereas, Mr. Meikles rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant during his service under General Patton during WWII; and

Whereas, Mr. Meikles was involved in the invasion of France during D-Day and witnessed combat firsthand; and

Whereas, Mr. Meikles was awarded a Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Battle of the Bulge ribbon, and a Bronze Star ribbon, and spent time as a P.O.W; and

Whereas, Mr. Meikles was a lifelong member of the D.A.V. Kanawha Chapter 28 and also was a member of the Alum Creek VFW Post 4768; and

Whereas, Mr. Meikles lived a life of honor, distinction, and courage worthy of remembrance; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name the portion of road located at CR 8 from the intersection with WV 214 to the intersection with Quail Hill Drive, 38° 17' 13.42" N, 81° 48' 40.64" W, in Lincoln County, the "U.S. Army SSG Orland Jackson “Tom” Meikles Memorial Road"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the road as the "U.S. Army SSG Orland Jackson “Tom” Meikles Memorial Road"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
