SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 73

Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance appoint an interim committee to study establishing a separate retirement system for emergency medical services personnel suited to the unique characteristics of their employment.

Whereas, Emergency medical services personnel must endure demanding and stressful circumstances and meet unique physical qualifications in their jobs which are different from those endured by most public employees; and
Whereas, The work environment of emergency medical services personnel routinely exposes them to increased risk of injury and disease; and
Whereas, The stressful work environment and demanding physical qualifications often require emergency medical services personnel to retire before reaching the usual retirement age of most public employees; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby requested to appoint an interim committee to study establishing a separate retirement system for emergency medical services personnel suited to the unique characteristics of their employment; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2005, on its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance.
