SENATE RESOLUTION 2

(By Senators Rucker, Grady, Chapman, Blair (Mr. President), Deeds, Swope, Phillips, Smith, Nelson, Jeffries, Caputo, Roberts, Woelfel, Azinger, Barrett, Clements, Hamilton, Hunt, Karnes, Maroney, Martin, Maynard, Oliverio, Plymale, Queen, Stover, Stuart, Takubo, Tarr, Taylor, Trump, Weld, and Woodrum)

Recognizing the dedicated public service of the Honorable Donna J. Boley.

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley was born Donna J. Northcraft in Bens Run, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Glen A. and Grace (Jones) Northcraft; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley graduated from Sistersville High School; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley married the late Jack E. Boley in 1956; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley served on the Pleasants County Republican Executive Committee for many years, including as its chairman; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley was appointed to the Senate in 1985 by Governor Arch A. Moore, Jr.; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley has been in office since her appointment, winning election and then re-election nine times, earning the honor of becoming the longest continuously serving senator in state history in 2018; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley served as the lone Republican senator (1991-1992); and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley has served as minority leader (1991-1996), and president pro tempore (2015 to present); and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley has been a West Virginia delegate to the Republican National Convention four times, served as the President of the Pleasants County PTAs, and served as a member of the St. Mary’s Woman’s Clinic, Lions International, Toastmasters Club, and myriad other service organizations; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley received the Distinguished West Virginian Award in 1970; and

Whereas, The Honorable Donna J. Boley has served with distinction in the Senate and throughout her career of public service. She has steadfastly advocated for her constituents and for the benefit of the people of West Virginia; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby recognizes the dedicated public service of the Honorable Donna J. Boley; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate expresses its most sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Honorable Donna J. Boley for her service to the Senate and the people of the State of West Virginia; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Donna J. Boley.
