SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 23

Kessler, Plymale, Bowman, Anderson, McCabe, Hunter, Deem, Boley,
Edgell, Minard, Unger, Craigo, Snyder, Helmick, Wooton, Burnette,
Chafin, Sharpe, Ross, Love, Caldwell, McKenzie, Rowe, Facemyer,
Redd, Sprouse, Minear and Mitchell)
Designating Monday, March 26, 2001, as "Don Nehlen Appreciation
Day" in recognition of his accomplishments as West Virginia
University head football coach.
Whereas, Don Nehlen successfully coached the West Virginia
University Mountaineers for 21 consecutive seasons, with better
than a .600 percent winning average; and
Whereas, Don Nehlen earned great distinction and respect from
collegiate football officials, coaches, players and fans from
across the United States; and
Whereas, Through his efforts on and off the field, Don Nehlen
has become one of West Virginia's most well-known and admired
ambassadors; and
Whereas, Through Don Nehlen's leadership, the Mountaineer
football team produced some of the greatest professional athletes
in the history of West Virginia University, as well as graduates
who have amassed outstanding careers in every profession; and
Whereas, Under Don Nehlen's leadership, the Mountaineers have
played in major bowl games and competed for national championships,
bringing national sports acclaim to the university and the State of
West Virginia; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby designates Monday, March 26, 2001, as
"Don Nehlen Appreciation Day" in recognition of his career as West
Virginia University head football coach; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Don Nehlen.
