SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 31

Commending the Honorable Robert C. Byrd for his support of a constitutional amendment to establish reasonable limits on contributions and spending in political campaigns.

Whereas, Senator Robert C. Byrd has lent his support to a proposal to amend the U. S. Constitution in order to rein in the "out-of-control" spending on political campaigns; and
Whereas, Campaign spending has skyrocketed in recent years, putting the cost of running for office out of the reach of the majority of Americans; and
Whereas, In the most recent national elections, an average winning House race cost $816,000 and an average winning Senate race cost over $7,000,000; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby commends Senator Byrd for his support for a constitutional amendment to establish reasonable limits on contributions and spending in political campaigns; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Robert C. Byrd.
