SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46

(By Senators Tomblin (Mr. President), McCabe, Mitchell, Sprouse, Anderson, Bailey, Ball, Boley, Bowman, Chafin, Craigo, Dawson,

Deem, Dittmar, Edgell, Fanning, Helmick, Hunter, Jackson,

Kessler, Love, McKenzie, Minard, Minear, Oliverio, Plymale,

Prezioso, Redd, Ross, Sharpe, Snyder, Unger and Wooton)

Recognizing the dedicated public service of the Honorable Martha Yeager Walker.

Whereas, The Honorable Martha Yeager Walker was born May 15, 1940, the daughter of the late James Herndon Yeager and Ardenia Stuck Yeager; and
Whereas, The Honorable Martha Yeager Walker received her education in the public schools of Kanawha County and earned a bachelor of science degree from West Virginia University; and
Whereas, The Honorable Martha Yeager Walker is married to her beloved husband, H. Jarrett Walker, with whom she has shared the joy of having three children, Meredyth Archer, Brent Walker and Melissa Lavengood and she is also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Julien, Elijah and Henry Archer and Jarrett, Caroline and William Walker, and
Whereas, The Honorable Martha Yeager Walker was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 1990, elected to the West Virginia Senate from the seventeenth senatorial district in 1992 and reelected in 1996; and
Whereas, During her tenure in the West Virginia Senate, the Honorable Martha Yeager Walker has served with dedication and distinction as Chairperson of the Committee on Health and Human Resources. Her knowledge and expertise of health-related issues in West Virginia has earned her the respect and admiration of many; and
Whereas, The Honorable Martha Yeager Walker has decided not to seek reelection to the Senate from the seventeenth senatorial district, bringing to an end a decade of devoted public service to the citizens of the State of West Virginia. She will be missed by her fellow colleagues in the Senate; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby recognizes the dedication, wisdom and legislative expertise of the Honorable Martha Yeager Walker which is evidenced by a myriad of worthwhile enactments, conceived and executed by her for the betterment of the citizens of the State of West Virginia; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to the Honorable Martha Yeager Walker for her many years of dedicated public service; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Martha Yeager Walker.
