CHARLESTON – As Chair of the Southern Legislative Conference, House Speaker Rick Thompson has appointed Kanawha Delegate Bonnie Brown to represent the Southern region on a committee of the national Council of State Governments. Delegate Brown will serve on the Council’s Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, which is the primary policy body and sets the group’s federal-state relations agenda. “I have great confidence in Delegate Brown’s ability to represent the interests of the Southern states, in particular West Virginia, as this committee works to better inform those in federal government about states’ needs,” Speaker Thompson said. The bi-partisan Intergovernmental Affairs Committee is particularly concerned about federalism issues and other issues impacting states' rights. It is comprised of officials from all branches of state government, as well as CSG associate members, including the Southern Legislative Conference. “I am honored to be able to serve on a committee that helps the CSG monitor and advise on major federal issues before Congress and the administration,” Brown said. “I have great interest in how the actions of Congress and the federal government affect state governments.” |
