Charleston, WV - April 1, 2013 - West Virginia Senate Majority Leader John Unger, (D-Berkeley), announced the passage by the Senate of Senate Bill 460 Exempting certain residents' active duty military pay from state income tax. “Currently, active duty military members of the National Guard or Armed Forces Reserves may subtract active military duty pay from adjusted gross income while the on active duty for Operation Enduring Freedom or for domestic security duty,” said Senator Unger, who sponsored the bill, “This bill extends the exemption into the taxable year in which the member returns from active duty to the extent that the pay is included in federal adjustable income tax for the taxable year in which it was received.” The bill will keep the member’s income tax commitment for active duty pay consistent. |
